Several studies examining the change in extreme events with climate change focus on either single day events or on heatwaves but none examine the coincidence of the two. This project will utilise data from the either the global scale CMIP5 model archive or regional scale CORDEX-AustralAsia simulations (the student may decide) to identify the timing of these events and examine the different mechanisms that contribute to their coincidence or non-coincidence.

The Summer scholarship student can be based at either The Australian National University in Canberra or UNSW Sydney with the possibility of interacting with researchers from both universities. They will gain experience in applying analytical methods to climate data and programming skills using visualisation and statistical software (e.g. Unix, python).
