Previous studies have used ice core records from Antarctica to make conclusions about Australia’s climate and recent extreme events. But how does this connection between Antarctica and Australia change over time? This project will help us understand Australia’s long term climate history and the range of extreme rainfall Australia experiences by exploring this connection.

For this project, you will use palaeoclimate records, observations of Australian climate and global climate models to investigate how  Australia’s climate is connected to Antarctica.

Requirements: This project would ideally suit a student with some experience of/ or interest in developing skills in programming and visualisation, for example with MATLAB, Python, NCL, or IDL.
